The Three Main Options
When arriving in Paris, most travellers choose between a metered taxi, a VTC app (Uber, Bolt, Heetch) or a pre-booked private transfer. Each has a distinct profile and suits different types of traveller.
Paris Taxis
Licensed Paris taxis are metered and regulated by the Prefecture. For airport journeys, fixed fares apply: €56 to the Right Bank, €65 to the Left Bank from CDG. These fares include one standard piece of luggage; supplements apply for additional bags, night journeys and public holidays.
Paris taxis are immediately available from the designated ranks outside each terminal — no booking required. This is their main advantage: on-demand availability for spontaneous journeys.
The downsides are real, however. Vehicle standards range from acceptable to poor. Language barriers are common. There is no guarantee of driver professionalism, and you cannot select your driver or vehicle in advance. During busy periods, queue times at CDG can exceed 30 minutes.
VTC Apps — Uber, Bolt, Heetch
VTC (Voiture de Tourisme avec Chauffeur) apps have become a popular alternative in Paris. They offer upfront pricing, a clear ETA before acceptance and the ability to see driver ratings. The Uber Black and similar premium tiers bring the quality closer to private transfer.
The limitations: surge pricing during peak demand, variable vehicle quality even on premium tiers, and inconsistent service for airport pickups where drivers may not enter the terminal. During high-traffic events (Fashion Week, major conferences, public holidays), availability can be severely reduced.
For a business traveller or someone arriving with luggage and tight timing, the uncertainty is a material risk.
Private Transfer Services

Which is Right for You?
If you are travelling light, alone and to a central destination with a flexible schedule, a taxi or VTC app is entirely adequate.
